Skin Needling

What is skin needling?

Skin needling is a safe and increasingly popular skin renewal technique to restore the youthful appearance of your skin at a fraction of the cost of comparable treatments and with minimal or zero downtime.

Skin needling produces similar results to lasers and deep chemical peels, but is much less invasive. As a result healing time is shorter and treatment is suitable for all skin types including fragile areas around the eyes, mouth and on the neck.

Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a procedure that involves a fractional penetrate the top layers of the skin and create pin-point injuries in the deeper layers. This triggers the body’s natural wound healing response, which includes the release of growth factors and the deposition of new collagen and elastin to rejuvenate the skin. Skin needling is a very effective treatment for wrinkles, rosacea, scars, stretch marks, thin skin density, sun damage, hyper-pigmentation and hypo-pigmentation.

The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Results can be quite spectacular.

Is skin needling safe?

Yes, skin needling has been practiced by doctors and nurses worldwide for more than 25 years. It is important you select a reputable clinic with trained practitioners to carry out your treatment. The skin needling treatment is performed by trained experts in a very safe and precise manner at Raquel’s Skin Care Centre.

What you cant do before treatment?

Skin Needling is contra-indicated on irritated skin, infected skin, fungal skin infections, active acne, active rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, severe solar keratosis, skin cancer, raised moles, warts and any open wounds or sores. If you have any of these skin conditions please advise us prior to treatment.
The area to be treated is cleaned and the application of a topical anaesthetic is applied 30-45 minutes prior to treatment. This procedure may take 60-90 minutes depending on the individual's discomfort level. To achieve optimal results we recommend approximately 1-5 treatments with a 4-6 week interval in between.

Your Safety is our first priority

We use medical grade devices Dermaroller. This is very important as poor quality skin needling devices can produce adverse reactions and complications with the skin. We pride ourselves on both our knowledge and experience but also on our thorough consultations that ensure we have all the necessary information to minimise the risk of complications.

How will I look immediately after the treatment?

After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed in appearance similar to moderate sunburn. You will experience mild tightness and mild sensitivity to touch. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following the treatment and within the next 48 hours your skin will be completely healed.
After 5 days, there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

The length of downtime depends on the micro needle size used for your treatment. You will be informed of your predicted post-treatment appearance during the consultation.

Is there any post treatments?

The skin may look or feel swollen and may have sunburn like sensation post procedure. For most treatments, this generally only lasts 24-48 hours, however, these affects can last up to 6 days following more advanced treatments.

  1. Hot showers and baths are to be avoided for 48 hours post procedure.
  2. If necessary you may apply a mineral make-up the day following your procedure. Non-mineral make-up may cause irritation and lead to further inflammation and redness.
  3. It is advised to use new or clean sponges and brushes to minimise risk of infection.
  4. For 3-5 days following the procedure the skin will feel tight and dry. The use of hydrating products to counteract this is advised.
  5. Avoid alcohol based toners/lotion for 10-14 days.
  6. The use of vitamin A based serums is highly encouraged as this will enhance the results.
  7. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10-28 days. The use of a physical SPF 30 is mandatory (rain, hail or shine!).
